Match Challenge: We Asked, You Answered
One word sums it up best: incredible.
I am absolutely amazed at your response to the Match Challenge my husband Jim and I proposed at the beginning of December. As long-time supporters of the League, we wanted to inspire members and supporters to give a bit more. Our $100,000 match goal was a big stretch, but we were hopeful we’d raise a few extra dollars for the League’s incredible programs.
As your gifts started to come in, I realized that “a few extra dollars” was a serious understatement. It was going to come down to the wire at the end of the month, but with each passing day, that $100,000 mark seemed more and more achievable.
We asked, and you answered.
Just as the cycling community answered the call after my accident back in 1997 (you can read the story here), League supporters answered our $100,000 call to action. And, because of you, we’ll be able to continue to offer leading programs and initiatives to make biking better across the country.
Hundreds of checks flowed into the League office. Thousands of dollars were donated online –- including an astounding $24,000 in the last day of the Match Challenge –- and together, we were able to raise $114,853 in just 31 days.
Jim and I are thrilled to match this total –- and, just like that, we’ve collectively raised more than $200,000 in one month. Let’s continue this incredible momentum in 2014 and beyond. Thank you for your support.
And, by the way, we decided to “Match the Match,” so we are honoring to match the full $114,853. After all, if you can go that extra mile, we can certainly honor every single one of you, too.
With great pride and appreciation,
Gail Copus Spann
