Bill Nesper Appointed Interim Executive Director

Karen Jenkins          Bill Nesper

A message from Karen Jenkins, Chair, League Board of Directors, [email protected]

With the National Bike Summit less than a month away, this is an exciting time for the League of American Bicyclists. The entire Board of Directors and staff of the League are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Summit when together, in the best tradition of the League, we work to meet our mission of building a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone!

The League is in a period of transition as Alex Doty, Executive Director, recently stepped down to pursue other interests. The Board extends appreciation to Alex who guided the League over the past 16 months.

The Board is very pleased to welcome Bill Nesper who was appointed as the Interim Executive Director. Bill, who has been with the League for 14 years, is confident of leading the organization he loves. He is ready for the challenges while he serves in this critical position.

Bill is well-known among League members and constituents and has worked in every part of the organization. “The opportunity to lead the League through this transformative time now brings me full circle, and I’m excited to work with our excellent members, staff and board to chart a path forward,” said Bill.

The Board is delighted Bill will lead the League while a search for an Executive Director is under way. We are fortunate Bill brings a depth of experience and wide respect among his colleagues at the League and across the country when, over his 14 years, he moved from Membership Assistant, to Membership Coordinator, Program Manager, Education Director, BFC Program Manager, BFA Director and recently to Deputy Director. And Bill is also a League Cycling Instructor (LCI).

The Board and Bill are also pleased to announce the League is more committed than ever to the important role of advocacy. Advocacy is at the core of what the League does and was the reason cyclists banded together in 1880 to advocate for a road network so more cyclists could safely enjoy the benefits of riding bicycles. In 137 years, our mission has not changed. What has changed are the strategies we develop and tactics we employ at the federal level and with you, our committed members and constituents at the local and state level. The League is poised to vigorously to support the important advocacy work you are doing. Together, we can build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone in every community throughout this beautiful country and set an example across the globe.

Please join the staff and the League Board of Directors in welcoming Bill Nesper as the Interim Executive Director of the most influential and prestigious advocacy organization for bicyclists. Please attend the National Bike Summit!
