Action Alert: Support New Performance Measure To Reduce GHG Emissions

Under this proposed rule, states and metro areas would be required to set a target to reduce emissions by transportation, like car trips. How would they reduce emissions? One way would be by making biking and walking safer and easier!

The Department of Transportation is asking for public comment on this rule now. The League has submitted its comments in support of this rule that would push our nation towards a greener future and now we’re asking you to do the same — and we’ve made it as easy as a click of a button

Read our previous blog about the new measure.

The League of American Bicyclists has submitted comments (read below) in support of this rule that would push our nation towards a greener future and now we are asking you to do the same.

Why emphasize reducing emissions? Some folks want states to be able to set their own targets for greenhouse gas emissions – which means states could set a target for increased emissions!

Most of our country’s greenhouse gas comes from the transportation sector so it is critical that we do everything we can to reduce emissions by cars and trucks. Federal data shows that nearly half of all transportation trips in America are 3 miles or shorter. This rule would incentivize states and metropolitan areas to invest in things like safe and connected bike infrastructure to meet their emission reduction goals.

We need your help supporting Buttigieg’s plan to reduce emissions and pushing back on interests that want to allow states to pat themselves on the back for setting and meeting goals to increase emissions.

Please let Buttigieg know you support reducing GHG emissions! Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a climate-saving action and means a cleaner, healthier planet for all.
