Bicycle Friendly CommunitiesCharlottesville, VA | Bronze Level Community Highlights: Charlottesville hosts a city Bike Summit every two years to create an agenda of the top 5 priority projects for the area’s bicycle facility network and then works with local government staff to implement those projects. "Arts for Bike Paths"' is a program by which Charlottesville raises money for bike facilities through auctions and artists' donations from their sales. With the growth of this program, the aesthetic and structural quality of bicycling in Charlottesville continues to improve. Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: Charlottesville recently created and hired a full-time, dedicated bicycle/pedestrian planning position within the City Parks and Recreation division who will coordinate all bicycling efforts and issues. |
