2006 Bike Summit: Press Policy

The League of American Bicyclists welcomes journalists to report on its 2006 National Bike SummitŪ, March 1-3 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Representatives of the media and others who plan to participate in the activities of the Summit must register.

Journalists who wish to report on the Summit must apply for press credentials and be certified by the League to cover the Summit. Unfortunately, we cannot issue credentials to freelance journalists or those who write content for Web sites or e-newsletters, membership newsletters, contributing writers not currently under contract with a publication, publishers, corporate officers, or sales, advertising, public relations or technical support staff from any organization.

To apply for press credentials, please write to marthea@bikeleague.org by February 28 or fax your application to 202.822.1334. Submitting a request for a press registration does not automatically qualify you for a press badge. Registration will not be guaranteed for those who fail to submit the proper documentation. Please write "Summit Press Credentials" as the subject line of your message. Your application must be accompanied by a letter on official letterhead from your editor/supervisor stating that you have been assigned to cover the National Bike SummitŪ and or the International Symposium on Bicycle Friendly Communities. Upon approval, all media registrants will receive a confirmation of their status via e-mail. Those who do not receive a confirmation by March 1 should write marthea@bikeleague.org. We may not be able to accommodate all the press requests we receive. The League will generally provide one credential per requesting news organization.

Certified journalists will receive a press badge and a press packet when they check in at the registration table at the Summit, which will be staffed at all times while the event is in progress. Please note that credentialed journalists who are not paid registrants will not be admitted to any of the meals served during the Summit or the Symposium, including the Keynote Luncheon, the Bicycle Industry Reception, or the Congressional Reception and will not be eligible to receive any swag, prizes, or other goods from the Summit or the Symposium.
