Traverse City, MI | Bronze Level

Community Highlights: Traverse City boasts the largest trail and bike advocacy organization in Michigan with 4 staff, and one of the largest bike clubs. The city has 30 miles of shared use paths with many state wide bike tours traveling through this beautiful city. During the Traverse City Film Festival in August, the city helped provide bike racks at the 4 in-town film venues - they parked an average of 40 bicycles per movie.

Most Compelling Community Statistic: Traverse City participated in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project through the Institute of Transportation Engineers Pedestrian and Bicycle Council in 2008 for the first time. In May 2008, counts were collected at 5 locations and counted 490 bicycles. Two locations were on trails, 2 on bike routes, and one downtown. In September 2008, counts were taken at the same locations during the same time frame and counted 1050 bicycles!
