South Lake Tahoe, CA | Bronze Level

Encouragement: During National Bike to Work Month, staff agencies and businesses competed against each other to see who could ride the most miles, as well as other competition categories (most percentage of employees participating, etc.) One agency gave cash awards to cyclists who rode their bikes during Bike to Work Month. America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride in Lake Tahoe (AMBBR) has been held on the first Sunday after Memorial Day every year beginning in 1992. The event has grown to attract more than 3,500 registered riders and has been “sold out” for the past several years—prompting the addition of the Tour de Tahoe in September. The City Trail Map system is printed on metal placards and located on key trail head signs. Additionally, 40,000 Lake Tahoe Bicycle Trail MapS, produced by the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition and designed by the Tahoe Daily Tribune are distributed free of charge. The map includes all paved bikeways and key dirt trails throughout the entire Lake Tahoe region. For more information, visit www.tahoebike.org.
