Bicycle Friendly CommunitySonoma, CA | Bronze Level
Community Highlights: There is an rapid growing grass roots movement that is spearheading Sonoma's bicycle friendliness and the local government is taking notice that supporting bicycle facilities is critical to the health and welfare of the community. The City is committed to being a place that people young and old can feel comfortable riding bicycles. Over 90 percent of Sonoma's arterials have either bike lanes or paved shoulders, ample bike parking is being installed throughout the city, and over half of the bikeways and priority projects identified in the Master Plan are in the process of being implemented. Most Recent Significant Accomplishment: The Sonoma City Council adopted the Sonoma Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan in September, 2008 and followed soon after with an allocation of $250,000 for bicycle improvements. Current Activities that Promote Bicycling: The City hosts an Annual Bicycle Festival and the Police Department facilitates Bicycle Rodeos for youth. |
