Bicycle Friendly CommunitiesSchaumburg, IL | Bronze Level
Encouragement: Sponsoring bicycle-oriented community festivals, events, and educational programs, Schaumburg encourages bicycling through a variety of development and promotional strategies. Schaumburg’s Bicycle Plan enables the village to continually adapt and expand planned bicycle access to our network of 86 miles of bike lanes, paths, and routes. Plan amendments will provide linkages with neighboring communities (Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Hanover Park, Elk Grove Village) and to a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over I290/IL53 into the Ned A. Brown Forest Preserve. The most recent addition to the network is an approximate two mile long off-street bicycle path linking Schaumburg with two more neighbors (Hoffman Estates and Streamwood) and more than 10 miles of bicycle and pedestrian paths that are a part of the Poplar Creek Forest Preserve. Implemented and proposed improvements will directly expand access to the bicycle network for more than 500,000 Schaumburg-area residents and workers. |
