Bicycle Friendly CommunityRiverside, CA | Bronze Level Community Highlights: According to the 2000 census the City of Riverside has a bicycle mode share that is twice the national average, nearly equal to the state average and higher then the Riverside County Average. The full time Traffic Education Coordinator in the police department conducts classes and create programs that will educate both motorists and cyclists about their legal rights and responsibilities on the road. Since May 2007, the City has added over 15 miles of class II bike lanes and 0.5 miles of class I bike trails to the City's existing network. Most Recent Significant Accomplishment: Riverside adopted it's Bicycle Master Plan on in May 2007 and the plan was recently approved by the County Transportation. The City also completed of the missing segment of the Santa Ana River Trail from Van Buren Blvd to Bradford Street. Current Activities that Promote Bicycling: There are three major bike events in Riverside: The Riverside to Surfside, Tour de Riverside, and Inland Express Bike Ride. |
