Bicycle Friendly CommunitiesPark City & Snyderville Basin, UT | Silver Level
Recent bicycling investment: In 2011, Park City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) finalized the Bonanza Dr. pedestrian/bike underpass, class II bike lanes and traffic calming features. Additionally, PCMC completed a multi-use path which provided connectivity to a pedestrian and bike underpass located on an elementary/middle school campus. Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District constructed one pedestrian/bike underpass that linked a commercial district to a transit hub (under construction), 2 miles of multi-use paths and 2 miles of bike lanes. Bicycling highlights: Park City is a mountain recreational town where residents and visitors see the bicycle as a recreational opportunity (even though they may be commuting). Residents are encouraged at every turn, to ride or walk (or xc-ski), rather than drive an automobile. There even is a bike messenger community. The City just received the International Mountain Bike Association 'Gold Level Ride Center' which recognizes the importance of providing all aspects of cycling to all ability levels in a coherent and accessible manner. Percentage of arterial streets with dedicated bicycle facilities: 92% Bicycling education in 100% elementary schools and 100% middle schools Signature cycling events: Tour of Utah Park City; Point to Point race; Tour des Suds; Annual Mountain bike races; Mid-Week MTB series; National Ability Center Summit Challenge; Young Riders Bike Swap Some coming bicycling improvements: Park City is planning to implement the city wide bike route plan. In addition, major multi-modal infrastructure improvements are planned for the remaining link of the urban trails (bike paths) along state route 224, which runs through the heart of Park City. Snyderville Basin is planning the addition of close to 4 miles of bike paths in the Kimball Junction and East Canyon areas, which will complete several missing links.
