Bicycle Friendly Community

Omaha, NE | Bronze Level

Community Highlights: Omaha is on the leading edge of bicycle infrastructure and use in the Midwest.  The community is dedicated to nurturing and enhancing bicycling as a mode of transportation as evident in the investment in our Transportation Plan update that seeks to create a balanced transportation network, and aggressive implementation of bicycle infrastructure in the city. Omaha continues to develop its bicycle and pedestrian program, which is based on strong public and private partnerships. In addition to traditional investments in bicycle infrastructure, Omaha has recently launched a bike share program called Omaha B-Cycle. This system not only places Omaha with a select few cities that have a public bike share system, but interest has far exceeded expectations so far, clearly indicating that Omaha is becoming a place for bicycle culture to thrive beyond recreational use.

Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: Omaha considers hiring its first Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator one of its most important investment as it will help guide the City towards becoming a more bicycle-friendly destination.
