Mountain View, CA| Bronze Level

Engineering: In Mountain View, 100 percent of arterial streets have bike lanes or paved shoulders. To enable cyclists to combine their riding with other modes of transportation, Mountain View constructed a 52-space bicycle shelter at the Downtown Mountain View Transit Center, a multi-modal transit hub and the primary transit station for the city. The city’s most significant investment is funding a $4.5 million project to extend Stevens Creek Trail, the city’s major north/south bicycle commute and recreation corridor, one-half mile. This extension will tunnel under El Camino Real, a high-speed, high-volume roadway, and provide dedicated bicycle access to the neighborhoods of south Mountain View. The city is also funding a $3.6 million project to grade separate the only remaining at-grade roadway crossing of Stevens Creek Trail, located at Moffett Boulevard. Over the last 25 years, Mountain View has invested more than $20 million in its bikeway network.
