Bicycle City

Bicycle Friendly Community

Keene, NH | Bronze Level

Community Highlights: Bicycling an even greater part of the Keene transportation system due to the updated master plan document, thorough efforts of the Bicycle Pedestrian Path Advisory Committee and work of Keene’s advocacy groups. The City along with other community partners sponsors a Bike to Work Week event that includes educational pamphlets and a breakfast.   When new infrastructure is added- such as new sections of trail, bike racks, bike lanes-- the Keene Planning Department puts out a press release to recruit cyclists to utilize the extended bicycle network.

Most Compelling Accomplishment: The City is meeting a 20% funding match over six years for the construction of the North Bridge Multi-use Overpass project over larger state routes. This project is located along a major rail-trail artery in Keene and will enable safe passage and connectivity to Keene's western neighborhoods.
