Bicycle Friendly Community

Gunnison, CO | Silver Level

Recent bicycling investment: The City of Gunnison completed an additional 2 miles of mulit-use trails on the City owned VanTuyl Ranch. In addition, share the road signs were purchsed and two signs were placed.

Bicycling highlights: The City of Gunnison increased the level of connectivity throughout the community and the surrounding neighborhoods to allow the safe travel of pedestrians and bicyclists using pedestrian bridges, underpasses, multi-use trails, painted bicycle lanes and shared lanes.
The City recognizes the health and wellbeing promoted by bicycling and pedestrian activities and wants to promote and educate citizens on the safe multimodal use of its streets, sidewalks, paths and trails in and around the community. A Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee was established in December of 2010 and the Committee is currently working on updating the Trails Master Plan to include a bicycle plan incorporating the five E's: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, and Evaluation/Planning.
The Gunnison Community is a very active biking community - Advocacy groups, businesses, municipalities and bicyclist enthusiasts have worked and continue to work together to promote and enhance bicycling activities in the community.
