Bicycle Friendly CommunityChico, CA | Bronze Level
Community Highlights: Chico boasts a 5.2 percent mode share, one of the highest in the country, and strives to provide the necessary facilities to make bicycling one of the most used modes of transportation among residents. The community requires that new development accommodate bicyclists, and uses funds from development impact fees to build new bicycle facilities. Most Recent Significant Accomplishment: Chico furthered its investment in cycle commuting during 2007 by completing 1.12 miles of bicycle paths, 0.16 miles of class two bicycle lanes, and a bicycle bridge over Big Chico Creek. Best Result of Designation: Chico's efforts toward improved bicycle infrastructure are expected and happen without question. Being recognized for those efforts by a national organization generates two-wheeled enthusiasm and gives the people who create those improvements and those who use the improvements great pride.
