Bicycle Friendly CommunityCharlotte, NC | Bronze Level Community Highlights: Charlotte has experienced a 231 percent increase in bicycle trips using public transit up from 19,000 to 63,000 in just six years. The city boasts 51 miles of bikes lanes, nearly 17,000 acres of open space available to cyclists, and 35 natural surface trails. Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: Charlotte recently equipped their new light-rail, the Lynx Blue line with bicycle parking facilities. Bicycle access to all stations was created and/or improved. Additionally, an exclusive bicycle/pedestrian trail was constructed adjacent to much of the rail line, connecting various stations with an off-road facility. There are bicycle racks on the Lynx train cars and cyclists have unrestricted access to board the train.
