Bicycle Friendly UniversityNorth Carolina State University | Bronze Level
Highlights: As an urban campus with medium to high-density housing nearby, North Carolina State University (NCSU) understands the potential for increasing biking and walking rates through physical infrastructure improvements, education and encouragement programs, and ancillary facilities. The university continues to encourage cycling as a viable transportation option for students and employees via commuter incentives, campus bike tours, voluntary bike registration, and other programs and amenities that improve convenience and safety. Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: The University hired a consulting firm in the 2010-2011 academic year to complete the first comprehensive Campus Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan for NCSU. This was a $50,000 investment, concurrent with other ongoing program expenditures such as the bike parking program and campus TDM program, which offers incentives and events for cyclists throughout each year. Most Compelling Fact: Currently, 3.6% of NCSU employees bike/walk commute, while 57.84% of NCSU students bike or walk to/from school. |
