Bicycle Friendly Business

Urban Eats Cafe| Bronze Level

Business Highlights: Urban Eats Café is working hard to raise awareness about sustainable transportation options and recruit like-minded staff that supports their mission of neighborhood revitalization. They take a number of efforts to encourage employees to bike to work. They provide cash incentives for bike commuting, are a part of a Guaranteed Ride Home program and offer a company fleet of bicycles for commuting to work and for recreation. The restaurant is located directly off of a bike trail and is equipped with a shower and locker room with secure bike parking and maintenance supplies. Urban Eats also offers a number of educational classes including safe riding, maintenance and driver safety. Three years ago, they established the Dutchtown Bike Tour and the Blesssing of the Bikes in St. Louis. The Bike Tour uses a local historian for their ride to promote understanding of urban design concepts of pocket parks and community planning.

Most compelling Bike Related Accomplishment: Urban Eats Café funded an artistic bike rack called Turnaround, designed by local artist, Brother Mel Meyer. This is the first bike rack installed in their commercial district and they are working to incorporate more, similarly designed racks into their new streetscape plan.
