Bicycle Friendly Business

Ramsey County| Bronze Level

Business Highlights: As a government employer, Ramsey County is very conscious of the use of taxpayer dollars for employee "benefits." They work hard to find creative, low-cost ways to increase the viability of bicycling as a commuting option for employees. Even with these considerations, Ramsey County still finds innovative ways to encourage bicycling. They provide a small fleet of bikes, helmets, and locks for their employees and offer them bike maintenance classes. There is an employee bike club, bike lockers, and a guaranteed ride home program. Employees are offered a discounted membership to a nearby gym since there are no showers on-site. Ramsey County publicizes the downtown St. Paul Bike to Work day, and provides volunteers to work at the event.

Benefits from Being a Bike Friendly Business: "By supporting bicycling, we are addressing several issues of importance to us as an employer: providing commuting options for employees, encouraging healthy behaviors, and minimizing negative impacts on the environment." - Mary Brauer, Office of Human Resources
