Bicycle Friendly BusinessProvidence Alaska Medical Center | Bronze Level
Business Highlights: As a health care facility and the largest employer in Anchorage, Providence Alaska Medical Center is setting a good example to the rest of the community by having a large number of employees commute by bike. The Medical Center’s top management commutes year round and encourages others to do the same. Current bike commuters challenge others to ride often and to increase their riding distance and to join Team Providence on the Ride for Life, a charity bike ride that Providence sponsors. These cycling advocates who commute share information with others who want to bikecommute and share their bicycling knowledge and passion through the Green Committee and UMed Transportation Committee. The Medical Center encourages employees to bike to work by offering covered, secure bike parking and access to maintenance tools. Bicycling is part of the Earth Day display that is placed by the main cafeteria. The Children’s Hospital at Providence along with Safe Kids gives out free helmets. Clinics and handouts are given year round. Providence Alaska reaches out to the community by offering safe riding skills and maintenance classes and hosting a community bike month event. |
