Bicycle Friendly BusinessJohns Hopkins University - Applied Physics Laboratory | Bronze Level
Business Highlights: Johns Hopkins University - Applied Physics Lab (JHU-APL) has an active 12 year-old bicycle club with more than 60 members and receives annual funding from the University. The campus has increased the number of showers from two to 16, and increased the quality from 1950s era temporary sheet metal construction to modern fitness club quality. Commuters are enjoying the new Building 200 which provides 48 covered bike parking spots, and a short dedicated bike lane on the road fronting the building. The company's monthly recreation newsletter includes an entry with information the club provides. APL Cycling Club maintains online communication tools: website, and web-based discussion group. Bicycles are allowed within the security perimeter which virtually eliminates the risk of theft and provides bike parking that is closer to work spaces than car parking. JHU-APL contributes via the bike club to purchase high quality team jerseys, jackets, and shorts for each member. In addition, shared equipment purchases are funded such as tools, lights, cargo trailer, child trailer, bike books, and bike DVDs. Also, guest speaker fees are reimbursed by the employer. |
