Business Highlights: InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) has improved their "bicycle friendliness" and increased ridership through targeted initiatives three years running.They made Bike to Work Day into a successful fundraiser that got all employees involved and increased awareness about bicycles.   They encouraged employees to participate in the "Clear the Air" Challenge by creating an IHG team.  They had about 20 team members who saved many trips throughout the challenge and one employee who was a recognized award winner.  IHG’s top management comprises some of their most committed riders who are leading the effort and recruiting/encouraging others.  A group of experienced riders serve as mentors for new riders. They educate them on equipment, plan safe efficient routes, and meet people at their homes to ride in with them. The office displays information on the website and postings throughout the facility on safe cycling, equipment, routes, and a calendar of bicycle-related events.  IHG built a covered bike parking structure and installed racks to keep up with the increasing number of bike commuters.  The office is located with direct access to a bike trail and adjoining streets have bike lanes.  The office provides a bike repair station and maintenance tools for commuters.  In addition, dress code exceptions are made for those who bike to work.
