Business Highlights: At Fluor you will see visible examples of the company's bike-friendly culture when you visit the campus. Cyclists head out for a lunch ride and campus signs remind motorists to Share the Road. Fluor has an onsite gym with showers and lockers, spinning classes, bicycle parking, a complete bike maintenance kit with spare tubes, route-finding support, and encouragement to participate in cycle events. Team members receive a 10 percent discount at The Great Escape cycle shop locally. The team has joined forces with the local community to support Greenville's Bicycle Friendly Community status, bike month and bike to work. The bicycle team touts a Level 2 USA Cycling Coach. Fluor provides cycle training videos and lunch-and-learn programs about cycle safety. Most Compelling Bike Related Statistic: Fluor Greenville's Cycle Team membership doubled to 80 members during 2009. Since some of the members travel the globe for work, the Fluor team kit is now seen in remote regions as far away as Abu Dhabi, Afghanistan and South Africa. Fluor is the first Engineering & Construction company in the nation to have a Bicycle Friendly Business status. They are also proud to be the very first Bicycle Friendly Business in South Carolina. Most Compelling Bike Related Accomplishment: Fluor is the title sponsor for the Wheels for Meals annual charity fundraiser, donating $25,000 to the Meals on Wheels organization plus an additional $21,900 raised from pledges in 2009. The Fluor team was out in force with 50 riders of the total 320 participants at the 2009 event. Fluor cyclists were the top five fund-raisers. Additionally they had eleven fund-raisers that raised more than $1,000. Benefits from being a Bicycle Friendly Business: Fluor has benefitted from its passion for cycling with increased public exposure and recognition amongst other large local cycling teams. Fluor benefits with improved wellness and morale amongst its employees as well as a more visible level of attraction for potential new employees. Fluor has inspired other companies with teams to apply for the BFB status. In addition, Fluor has been a part of the BFC effort in the City of Greenville, a recent Bronze winner! Fluor will continue to take part in community efforts to create safe bike lanes and greenways in the region. The company is enthusiastically involved in dozens of community rides, charity cycling events and training rides. Fluor features its traniers in local training videos and is active in the production of public service announcements in Greenville. |
