Bicycle Friendly Business

Economic Research Service/USDA| Bronze Level

Business Highlights: Economic Research Service is involved in the DC area Interagency Task Force on Bicycling and Active Transportation, an established group to help encourage federal agencies to encourage bicycling. They are a role model agency – they offer employees the Commuter Tax Benefit for Bicyclists, participate in a guaranteed ride home program, have an employee bike club, and on-site showers and lockers for commuters. In addition to these consistent efforts they also annually celebrate Bike Month and Bike to Work Day with Bike to Work Brown Bag Seminars, a commuter challenge, organized social rides, and through distribution of bicycle information.

Benefits of Being a Bicycle Friendly Business: Employees that bike have demonstrated an increased productivity a fact supported by the disproportionate representation of bike commuters in annual and biennial Agency research awards. ERS knows that bike commuters tend to have an increased ability to find solutions to complex problems.
