Bicycle Friendly Business

Community Cycles| Silver Level

Business Highlights: Although a small organization, Community Cycles is big on bike friendliness. The business provides a discount on equipment for employees and volunteers, shower facilities, a bicycle repair station, dedicated bike maintenance person, and bike maintenance supplies. Community Cycles has a unique Rolling Bike Clinic for which they hitch up bike trailers and set up a mobile bike station for the day in various neighborhoods. They offer a Youth, Adult, and Work Release Earn-A-Bike program to encourage community members to ride a bicycle. Both employees of Community Cycles live a car-free lifestyle and commute to work 100 percent of the time. Having direct access to the Goose Creek Greenway, a major bike path in town, makes bicycling to and from the workplace easy as pie. Community Cycles has joined forces with local businesses and advocacy groups to work toward a more bicycle friendly Boulder and was an active participant in the Boulder Bicycle Summit.

Most Compelling Bike Related Statistic:
The Executive Director, 2 board members and several of the core volunteers lead a car-free lifestyle. Others are working towards or already living car-reduced lifestyles.

Most Compelling Recent Bike Related Accomplishment: The City of Boulder contracts Community Cycles to organize and carry-out the City's Walk & Bike month.  This year the Walk and Bike to Work Day had over 7,000 participants. Even more recently, the business’s members effectively lobbied City Council to approve the building plans for a much-needed underpass which was also a crucial interconnection of Boulder’s current path system, future systems, and the City's eventual Transit Hub.

Benefits from Being a Bike Friendly Business: The organization is gaining recognition as an advocate for cycling and cyclists in the city Boulder.  More individuals and organizations look to them for representation and/or partnership in lobbying for the needs and safety of cyclists.  The City and County seek their input of cycling-related issues more and more.
