Bicycle Friendly BusinessCity of Fayetteville | Bronze Level
Business Highlights: Every year, the Mayor of Fayetteville gives a public announcement and signed proclamation to promote Bike to Work Week, followed by an organized group ride from downtown. The City also participates in a Bicycle Commuter Challenge organized by the Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks. The City of Fayetteville has an employee bike club, organizes group rides and has a locker room, shower and dedicated bike maintenance person in the main office. The City has an in-house trail construction crew that builds 2-3 miles of multi-use trail annually and stripes on-street shared lane markings and bike lanes. This has enabled Fayetteville to build more trails for less cost to the citizens. They use the local government channel to provide educational promotion for the trails and on-street system along with maps and guidance to the facilities: the police department participates in a Kid's Bicycle Safety event and an LCI Fayetteville employee teaches Traffic Skills 101. City of Fayetteville Code requires businesses to install bicycle racks for any development with more than 25 vehicular off street parking spaces. Most Compelling Bike Related Statistic: The City Council has adopted a Bicycle Friendly Community action plan with a target of 2.5 percent of commutes by bicycle the 2020 census, for both city residents and employees. |
