Bicycle Friendly Business

City of Bloomington City Hall | Silver Level

Business Highlights: The City of Bloomington is committed to improving the health and wellness of its employees. In 2010 the City offered two new benefits: a health club membership stipend and the commuter bike benefit. The City recognizes the win-win situation in which healthy employees are productive employees and offer vouchers to employees who bike to work for a majority of their trips. The vouchers (CommuterCheck for Bicycling) are accepted at local bike shops and can be put towards the purchase of a bike or equipment. For Bike to Work Day, the City of Bloomington organizes a breakfast with prizes and a mentorship program to help in route selection and pair riders with others coming from the same side of town. The City offered free enrollment for employees in a League Traffic Skills 101 class and a commuter class.  There is a company bike fleet for Parking Enforcement's use, which can be also be used by other employees when available.  The office is equipped with a locker room, shower and bike maintenance supplies.  City departments recently partnered with the Bloomington Bicycle Club to distribute and attach free front and rear lights to bicycles being ridden at night. The City publishes pamphlets on the benefits of bicycling, bicycle parking facilities, routes, and safety information. This information is also available online in addition to a bike parking location google maps.
