Business Highlights: Charlotte County Health Department organizes a commuter challenge, giving all participants a DVD on bicycle safety, chain lube, water bottle, towel and brochures. The office is equipped with a locker room, shower, bike repair station, maintenance supplies and a dedicated bike maintenance person. Details of the bicycle mentor program are in the booklet "CCHD Tips for Successful Bicycling Commuting." This booklet is given to all new staff and is available for clients in the lobby, in addition to the Florida Bicycling Association (FBA) guideline to laws that apply to cyclists, the FBA's guidelines for safe cycling practices and a map showing local Charlotte County bike paths. The bicycle coordinator answers any questions and links new staff with current bicycle commuters. Staff are trained and certified through the Safe Routes To School program to fit bicycle helmet, and are beginning to implement the program for children under 17. The Healthy Lifestyle department has also developed part of the website to exclusively focus on promoting bicycling in Charlotte County.
