Bicycle Friendly Business

Charleston Civic Design Center| Silver Level

Business Highlights: The Charleston Civic Design Center (CCDC) believes it is important to do everything they can to facilitate a bicycle culture that is inclusive and provides a myriad of opportunities for individuals and groups to make an investment in it. The CCDC actively works to promote bicycling as a key component of urban design and planning. They have created strategies for integrating bicycle infrastructure into both their work-day and work-product. They provide access to a shared bicycle for use of all employees for trips during the work day, or as an overnight loaner, promote Bike to Work Day on their website and host a free lunch event for bicycle commuters with seminars on biking. The CCDC has provided free space for events and meetings of local bicycling groups and often gives tours of Charleston by bike. In 2009-2010 they organized and co-sponsored a free community lecture series on bicycling, including national experts, collaborated on the bEYEcycle Photo Competition, the King Street Bike Rack program, and the East Bay Bike Lane design concept. CCDC has constructed an innovative bike facility that provides secure bike parking, informational resources on bike routes, and maintenance resources.
