Business Highlights: Banner Health conducts annual Safety Fairs for the community where thousands of helmets are fitted and given away for free. They also sponsored a bike to work breakfast in Phoenix, AZ as part of National Bike to Work Month activities. Banner Health has two bike cages at the Banner Thunderbird Hospital, which provide access and track usage via employee badges and is under video surveillance. At one of their pilot hospitals they provided free helmets to employees who commit to riding to work 3 days a month. They are in the initial stages of creating a comprehensive strategy of supporting and encouraging employees to ride to work. They have partnered with the Maricopa Association of Governments to support the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian and Safety Education Program and The Regional Safe Routes to School Support Center Project. Banner Health prioritizes the health and well-being of both its patients and employees, inspiring their efforts to promote cycling. Most Compelling Bike Related Statistic: Banner Health examined the claims costs of employees who rode to work versus employees who do not ride to work over 12 months. On average, they found employees who rode to work had claims costs almost $10,000 less than non bike commuters. At this same pilot hospital, they were able to increase the number of bike commuters by almost 100%. |
