Business Highlights: Ameriprise Financial sponsors an employee bicycling club that maintains a database with the listing bike club events, local fun rides, charity rides, and races. The database also enables networking by including a list of employee members sortable by location, experience, pace, and type of riding. First-time visitors to the database are encouraged to use the member list to locate mentors or resources for their cycling questions. By ensuring the bike club is represented on the company's Green Task Force, bike commuting remains a focus and company priority.  The amount of secure bike parking was recently increased to meet the demands of the growing number of employees biking to work.  Ameriprise has strong partnerships with government and advocacy groups in the community.  They work with the Downtown Minneapolis Transportation Management Office and serve on the planning committee to assist with event coordination, participant recruitment and sponsorship solicitation.  The company uses local bike couriers to run errands.  They are located along the community’s bike route system and are accessible by trail and bike lane. 

Most Compelling Bike Related Accomplishment: Ameriprise won the 2009 award from the City of Minneapolis for having the highest employee participation on Bike to Work Day.  They also participate in BTWD promotional activities such as a “brown bag" session on commuting, co-led by an Ameriprise Financial employee.  Employees also have an opportunity to lead rides through the community and promote bicycling to Minneapolis residents.
