Business Highlights: For Bike to Work Day, AMD organizes a commuter challenge with prizes and a breakfast. With an available locker and shower for employees who bike to work, AMD is an ideal location to bike. They have team captains at each site that lead fundraising initiatives and team registrations. AMD sponsored the LIVESTRONG Challenge in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and Austin's Commuter Bike Challenge in May 2010. AMD is in communication with the City of Austin Bike Program to support a bike bridge project that would alleviate a major bottleneck to their site. They have asked the city to put bike lanes on adjoining streets, and to install bike route and share the road signs for the short-term. AMD has a part-time bike coordinator, who runs programs, provides incentives, and conducts outreach. They have programmed a bike-buddy mentor program through their ride-matching software, so new riders can search for existing riders. The company also has a cycling email list so cyclists can coordinate daily ride times and routes, distribute information on safe bicycling, safe routes around the area and proper riding equipment. They distribute weekly sustainability tips to employees registered in the commuter program that often focus on cycling. AMD supports cycling in the community by presenting case studies to other organizations on their biking and commuter programs and supporting local cycling organizations and programs. Most Compelling Bike Related Accomplishment: AMD has a robust incentive program that includes monthly drawings for eco-prizes or gift cards. Cycling to work earns points worth $25 credits and/or 20% coupons to local bike shop and tickets that are used to enter an annual raffle for a new bike. |
