Bicycle Friendly BusinessActivate Omaha | Silver Level ![]()
Business Highlights: The employees of Activate Omaha are in line with the organization’s goals of promoting the residents of Omaha to adopt active lifestyles. Bike commuting is encouraged through flex time that allows employees to factor bike commuting time into their schedule, allowing many of the staff to ride to/from school with their kids. The organization arranges social rides, hosts maintenance clinics, and sponsors bike month events. They have a fleet of 18 bikes that are used during the summer for group trail rides for inner city kids and have taken 2 of the larger bikes and installed them in their office for employee use during the day. Activate Omaha sponsors Bike to Work Day by organizing the Mayor's Ride and sponsors a 14 week commuter cycling challenge; in 2009, 700 riders logged over 129,000 miles. Two-thirds of the staff is actively involved with an informal bike club that participates in frequent group rides, the MS150, the local Corporate Cycling Challenge, adventure races, triathlons and other fun events. Most Compelling Bike Related Accomplishment: Activate Omaha is hosting a huge Bike Month event for May 2010 partnering with many organizations and businesses to help achieve their goal of a bike-related activity every day of the month of May. |
