Mandatory Bike Permits in New York City

Read the debate about cycling permits in the Big Apple

A proposed law would require NYPD parade permits for any group of 20 or more riders (and 35 pedestrians). It would also allow the police to arrest for parading without a permit any group of 2 (yes, two) or more cyclists or pedestrians who don't comply with all traffic laws, rules and regulations. Our colleagues at Transportation Alternatives are compiling a list of activities and events (especially informal) that would be impacted by such draconian rules to point out the absurdity of the proposal at a hearing scheduled for August 23. Get involved by contacting noah@transalt.org at Transportation Alternatives. And if you're in the NY area don't forget Harlem Valley Rail Ride and TA Century.
