League Appoints New Board Members

Nix, Young Join Brustin and Falvy for Three-Year Terms

Gary Brustin, a California personal-injury attorney specializing in bicyclist cases, and Lisa Falvy, vice president of multi-modal products for Sportworks in Woodinville, Wash. return for their second three-year terms.

“This is an exciting time for the League,” said Amanda Eichstaedt, president of the League of American Bicyclists. “The new board members are innovative leaders and strong bicycling advocates who will help the League continue to grow and exceed expectations in the coming years.”

Nix is a long-time cyclist who has toured the world on his bike. He and his wife, Claudia, founded Liberty Bicycles in 1980. The shop has been a Bicycle Retailer & Industry News Top 100 shop every year since 1994. He has served on the board of the National Bicycle Dealers Association, and was named Bicycle Retailer of the Year in 2003. He is also a certified League Cycling Instructor.

Before joining the Friends of Pathways, Young ran the Teton field office for the National Parks Conservation Association. He was instrumental in convincing Grand Teton National Park to adopt an innovative, multi-modal transportation plan. Before that, he worked for local government, building bicycle and pedestrian projects. He has ridden his bike around the world. His current legislative project is to repeal Wyoming's mandatory sidepath law, which restricts a cyclist’s right to the road.

“Strong leadership is more important than ever,” said Executive Director Andy Clarke. “Having the voice of these nationally known advocates on our board is the key to our success in the future.”
