Traffic Skills 101Date: Friday, Nov. 20, & Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 Description: TRAFFIC SKILLS 101 Date: Friday, November 20, 6-9 pm and Sunday, November 22, 1-5 pm Location: The McGee Sports Center, 3800 College Avenue, Conway, AR 72034 Fee: Donation to Conway Advocates for Bicycling: $20 for CAB members or $45 for non-members, which includes one-yr CAB membership Description: As roadways and bike trails become increasingly complex and congested, do you know all you need to know to safely ride a bicycle? Do you feel you know enough to teach children how to ride cautiously and conspicuously while on their own? When you drive your car, are you confident on how to share the road with bicyclists? The Smart Cycling program gives you the tips, tools, and techniques to confidently answer yes to each of those questions. On our roadways, bikes are treated as vehicles. Simply knowing how to ride a bike is not the same as knowing how to operate a bike safely and legally. The Smart Cycling program is a set of curricula for adults and children taught across the US by certified League Cycling Instructors (LCI). Traffic Skills 101 is designed to gives beginning as well as more experienced cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills, and crash avoidance techniques. It also includes a full student manual. Recommended for anyone sixteen and over, this fast-paced course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling. This course is also required for those wishing to become instructors themselves. This is a two-part course; the first part is on Friday, November 20 from 6 until 9 pm, the second part is on Sunday, November 22 from 1 until 4 pm. The first part, on Friday, is classroom work only. The second part, on Sunday, is outside where we will be doing non-strenuous drills in the parking lot and supervised, slow-rides on nearby streets. The course will be held at the McGee Sports Center, 3800 College Ave, Conway, AR, both days. Please pre-register at www.cycleconway.org. The course cost is $20 for CAB members, or $45 for non-members but includes a one-yr membership in Conway Advocates for Bicycling. All revenue from fees is donated directly to CAB. You must be 16 years or older to participate and have a working bicycle and a helmet. Once you are registered we will send you more information about the class and what it involves.
