Traffic Skills 101aDate: November 19, 2009 6-8pm Description: Most of us were taught to ride a bike by a parent when we were very small, and our bike education ended at that time. In fact, we were simply taught how to ride without falling down too often; but few of us were ever taught how to drive our bicycle in traffic. Traffic Skills 101 fills that gap. It is Driver’s Ed for cyclists. Traffic Skills 101 is taught by LAB-certified instructors, and the curriculum covers everything from bike selection to simple maintenance to fixing a flat, to strategies for riding a bike safely and confidently. It is taught to very small classes (generally 5 to 10 students), in two sessions: 3 hours on a Wednesday evening and 6 hours on a Saturday. The Wednesday evening session is classroom work; the Saturday session is in two parts: parking lot safety drills, and a ride through Long Beach streets under the eye of one or more instructors. This is a prerequisite for TS101b Instructors: Chris Quint (#523) Daniel Gutierrez (#962) Dominic Dougherty (#1936) Jayme Bassett (#2259) Travis Bos (#2242) Kevin Flaherty (#2237) Tom Duval (#2238) To register for this course, contact: Website: http://www.longbeach.gov/park/classregistration/sports.asp Signup required in advance?
