Donate to the LeagueThis is our time! People are hungry for change, but they just don't know what to do.The impacts of climate change are more visible, and more obvious, every day. The massive economic costs—and very real personal impacts—of physical inactivity, obesity, congestion, and traffic crashes are starting to be tallied and the statistics are alarming. And our massive and short-sighted dependence on foreign oil, now soaring above $100 a barrel, is finally coming home to roost as we scramble to find alternative fuels, improve motor vehicle efficiency, and even drive less! With your help, here's what we can do: • Produce and distribute a series of powerful Public Service Announcements (i.e. short video clips) that effectively tell the story of people who are transforming their lives, and the quality of life in their communities, by getting on a bicycle. Just in time for National Bike Month, each one will include critical tips for motorists! • Create a dynamic on-line toolkit in anticipation of the inevitable media frenzy over rising gas prices during spring and summer. The same thing happened two years ago when gas hit $3 a gallon—we need to be ready for even greater opportunities as we hit $4 a gallon and the economy becomes the top issue of the day. • Continue to expand our successful programs: help more communities become bicyclist-friendly, certify more LCIs, and promote our national bicycling agenda. Rest assured that underpinning all of these efforts is our abiding focus on promoting and protecting your rights as a cyclist. The next few months present us a golden opportunity to raise awareness of the value and importance of bicycling and bicyclists. Your support is vital to our success. Please contribute today.
